Our Projects – Basic Needs Development

Basic Needs Development

“The Basic Needs Development” Project is designed to support the most vulnerable families within the FRIENDS beneficiary community and families who struggle every day without the most essential elements of a safe and dignified life. Through this Project, we reach out to households that lack basic needs such as toilets, kitchen, electricity, clean drinking water and shelters. Many of these families live in fragile wattle houses with leaking roofs, cracked walls that threaten to collapse during the rainy season or use their neighbors’ toilets and water sources. This Project aims to ease their daily hardships and restore their sense of safety and dignity.

To achieve this purpose, FLCF implements basic human settlement initiatives together with clean water supply and sanitation support for low-income beneficiary families in Colombo, Kalutara, Galle, Hambantota, and Kilinochchi. One of the most important interventions of this project is the annual “Christmas Campaign.” Each year, we identify the most urgent and deserving case, a family living without a home or in a severely unsafe house and collaboratively gather all our donors and sponsors to build or renovate a secure home for them.

In addition to that, as a complementary humanitarian effort, FLCF carries out several initiatives each year to provide safe and basic, need fulfilled shelter for children enrolled in the child sponsorship and professional scholarship programs, within the limits of our capacity.

This shared act of kindness brings together donors from around the world to gift a struggling family not just a house but a new beginning for their lives. Through this project, we believe that we can rebuild lives, strengthen communities and remind beneficiary families that they are not forgotten.
